Curriculum

It is our goal to prepare special education students for success in their adult life. Cups of Cambridge will follow the Serving Up Success, Inc. program that was first implemented by Special Education teachers, Stephanie Barber and Kelly Bramblett, teachers in the Cobb County school system

We are excited about the relationships that will be developed through this endeavor. Cups of Cambridge will be a coffee shop operated by special education students. A relevant curriculum of functional math skills, social skills, and basic life skills will provide the students with the career preparation they will need in order to live as independently as possible after graduation.

Our objectives are to establish a work place environment where the students will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of a coffee shop. In order to do this we have transformed the concession stand in the theatre lobby into the Cups of Cambridge Café.  Our vision includes:

  • A coffee shop serving faculty and students

  • Email orders and delivery service for faculty only

  • Brewing equipment

  • An original business logo (CHS graphic arts student)

  • Aprons and name tags for each student

  • To go coffee mugs with our logo enabling teachers to get refills at a discount

  • Murals for the walls of the coffee shop

  • Furniture including sofa, lamps, and area rugs

  • Bistro tables with chairs

  • Serving counter top

The collaborative efforts of the student population at Cambridge High School will be used in making this project a reality. The project provides an opportunity for regular education students to develop and practice entrepreneurial and managerial skills.

For example, the Serving Up Success model encourages the use of…

  • Cambridge student to create the logo to give the coffee shop an identity.

  • Engineering students used to create a coffee shop cart for deliveries

  • A web design student to create the web site for the coffee shop and an email order form so that teachers can email their coffee order to the coffee shop for delivery.

  • Business education students to manage inventory, finances, scheduling and help train “employees.”

Cups of Cambridge will generate enough funds to be self-sufficient once the fundamental components are implemented.  Income can be used for scholarship funds, instructional materials, student incentives, and field trip funding. Furthermore, other Cambridge High School clubs/classes could rent the coffee shop for fundraising events.
